Which bot runtime should I pick?

Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Rust, Bun, Deno, PHP, .NET or Ruby, and how to choose.

  1. Use the language your bot is already written in. Hartwell Bot Cloud supports Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Rust, Bun, Deno, PHP, .NET and Ruby.
  2. Starting fresh? Node.js (discord.js) and Python (discord.py) have the largest communities and the most examples.
  3. Pick a version your libraries support. If you are unsure, use the default version shown when you create the bot.
  4. Each runtime has its own startup file, for example index.js for Node.js and main.py for Python. The bot page shows the example.
  5. Compiled languages such as Go, Rust and .NET need you to upload the built program, or the code and a build step, depending on the runtime page.
  6. You can run bots in different languages inside the same pool.

Never share your password, a bot token, a private key or card details with anyone, including Hartwell staff.
